CommunityAmbassador Program We have a very special group of people that we depend on in the St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission office, our St. Landry Parish Ambassadors of Tourism. This dedicated group of folks, who are recruited by their respective mayor, help our office to stay on top of the many events held throughout the year and keep us informed as to when new attractions, accommodations, shops or restaurants open in their area. The Ambassadors meet once a month at various locations within the parish, which provides them the opportunity to learn about the parish as a whole. They of course are all very knowledgeable about their hometowns and are proud to share it with everyone by hosting a monthly gathering. And during tourism awareness week, they help to showcase St. Landry Parish at the Atchafalaya Welcome Center. The Ambassador Program in turn, allows our office the opportunity to share the recent actions and decisions made by the Parish Tourist Commission and the Ambassadors are then able to report back to their communities about up and coming events like sales missions, ad campaigns, media familiarization tours and other initiatives sponsored by the Commission. Often the Parish Tourist Commission receives requests for assistance from individuals who may be researching family history or looking for a family home site and our Ambassadors are called upon to share their knowledge. With the increase in activity in the film industry here in Louisiana, telephone calls from producers looking for specific locations have been received and here again the Ambassadors are consulted. Since the inception of this program, one major change has occurred. We allow two representatives from each municipality to be appointed, which helps to ensure that if one is unable to attend events, there will always be someone present. If you note a vacancy for your community and would be interested in volunteering, give your mayor a call. Grant Program St. Landry Parish manages an advertising grant program. The Advertising Grant is for events held within St. Landry Parish who are eligible to apply for funding which is to be used for advertising purposes. The St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission meets at 5:30 pm on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at various locations across the Parish. The agenda for each meeting is determined the preceding Wednesday. You will be notified to confirm placement on agenda and of meeting location.
