    Café Josephine

The menu at Cafe Josephine is just as eclectic as the multitude of antique shops and local art studios surrounding it. Best described as, rustic cuisine, Chef Troy creates dishes with a unique flair while still staying true to the local culture. His menu is teeming with comfort foods like shrimp and grits, wild game like duck tamales, and tacos spiked with a drizzle of Sriracha and pecan pepper jelly. Here's a tip from the locals; don't go hog-wild on their famous cheddar biscuits. It's all too tempting but save room. It'll be worth it!

    Old Courtableau Café

The Old Courtablea Café is a Cajun-style, family restaurant and dancehall in Washington, Louisiana. To get there, take scenic Highway 182 which leads to downtown Washington. The cafe is located among homes, antique shops, and other magnificent examples of architecture from the steamboat era.

The owners, David and Peggy Allemond, have restored the storefront and retraced its history to the 1840's. While the husband and wife team is still researching the store's exact origins, locals still remember Lastrapes Meat Market, the general mercantile, and People's drug store.

Today, locals and visitors alike, celebrate its long history with live music and good food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In the morning enjoy a hot cup of coffee and a batch of fresh, fried beignets or a stack of Paw-paw's Pancakes. For lunch and dinner choose from grilled or fried seafood, fresh salads, stuffed po'boys, or homestyle plate lunches. Check OldCourtableauCafe.com for daily lunch specials.

    Steamboat Warehouse Restaurant

The Steamboat Warehouse Restaurant provides a truly unique dining experience in Washington, Louisiana, the third oldest establishment in the state. This historic, bousillage structure, located in heart of the old steamboat port, offers guests a step back in time. In fact, it is the last of the old steamboat warehouses still standing on Bayou Courtableau. The building was constructed in the 1820s and originally stored cotton before it was restored in 1977 as a fine-dining restaurant. Today, a massive collection of antiques are on display and exposed brick walls set the stage for an unforgettable dining experience Try Chef Jason Huguet's signature dishes such as Steak Lafitte or the soft shell crabs.

The building’s rich history and rumors of paranormal activity have attracted tourist, ghosts hunters, bloggers and writers. Restaurant staff will tell you fascinating stories about creepy encounters, enough to give you the frissons (chills)! Even formal investigations have even taken place, but what’s really spooky is how good the food is! The owner-chef, Jason Huguet, has received multiple awards and gold medals for menu items such as Eggplant Belle Rose, Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, and Sidesaddle Angels.

    The Little Big Cup

Spend time with locals on the banks of Bayou Fuselier at the Little Big Cup in Arnaudville. This fine-dining restaurant feels more like the home of an old friend, one with excellent taste and a scenic view of the bayou, likely due to the owners Kevin Robin and Sanjay Maharaj. The two New Yorkers moved back to Robin's hometown, Arnaudville, and opened the restaurant in 2012. Since then the restaurant has created a buzz on the bayou with dishes like Praline Chicken or the popular Boucherie Brunch Buffet items. Their "A+" reputation isn't solely about the food but the wait staff's kindness and southern hospitality.

The Little Big Cup specializes in Cajun and Creole dishes but Wednesday nights are now reserved for the cuisine of the Caribbean, a tribute to the owner's heritage, Sanjay, who is originally from Trinidad. Each week the restaurant will explore new flavors, spices, and dishes from a different island.

    The Palace Cafe

In 1927 Greek immigrants, Mama and Papa Doucas, opened what was then known as The Palace Sandwich Shop. They specialized in Creole and Cajun dishes, such as their famous crawfish bisque and fried chicken salad. Today you can still indulge in these decades-old recipes in this old school dinner. Try the daily plate lunches or order off the menu, however, every local will agree that one of the cafe's "must try's" is the chicken and sausage gumbo.
