    Fete Dieu du Teche

August 15 is a very special day in Acadiana. For those in the Roman Catholic Church, it is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and for this same reason, it is also a day which should resonate within the hearts of all those who embrace their Acadian heritage. In celebration, a Eucharistic procession will take place along Bayou Teche from Leonville to St. Martinville. 50 boats will disembark at 9:30am, retracing the steps of our Acadian ancestors along Bayou Teche. The procession will make several stops along the way for a recitation of the Rosary and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

    • 8am - Begin with Holy Mass by Bishop Glen John Provost, D.D., Bishop of Lake Charles, at St. Leo’s in Leonville
    • 9am - Procession goes boat landing
    • 9:30am - Boat procession departs
    • Stops at Each Church on the Bayou: 10:20am–11:05am in Arnaudville; 11:45am–12:30pm in Cecilia; 1:35pm–2:20pm in Breaux Bridge; 3:15pm– 4pm in Parks)
    • 4:45pm - The procession will arrive in St. Martinville and disembark behind Notre Dame de Perpetuel Secours, then enter the Church for Benediction.
    • 5:15pm - The procession will continue on foot to St. Martin de Tours for Benediction and then down Main Street to Mater Dolorosa Chapel for Solemn Vespers and Final Benediction at 6pm.
