    Zydeco Tropical Cruise Dance

    Get out your Zydeco boots, your Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts and get ready for the Zydeco Tropical Cruise Dance featuring Wayne & Same Ol 2 Step. The event takes place in Grand Coteau, but the atmosphere will transport you to the ease of a tropical vacation. 

    Wayne & Same Ol’ Two Step is firmly grounded in the Opelousas-Lawtell tradition. Mentored by the legendary Roy Carrier, founder and bandleader, Wayne Singleton, has toured throughout the United States and Europe, playing festivals and clubs including Blast from the Bayou at Strawberry Park and the Saulieu Cajun & Zydeco Festival in France. 

    All proceeds from this event fund renovation of the Historic St. Peter Claver Hall in Grand Coteau.

    2nd Annual SOCC Black Pot Cook Out & Dance

    Join us for the 2nd Annual SOCC Black Pot Cook Out. Area chefs are invited to come and show off their cooking style, spend time with friends and family, all while giving to a good cause. Door prizes include a fishing rod, a black pot and more! The public is invited to sample a wide variety of wild game dishes including alligator, deer, duck, and wild pig. You will also find a sweet booth and plenty of drinks to cool you down. That evening, grab a partner and show off your zydeco moves for live music by Cedryl Ballou & The Zydeco Trendsetters.

    6th Annual Sweet Dough Pie Festival

    This event celebrates the unique history of historic Grand Coteau and a traditional treat called, sweet dough pie. Every year pastry chefs and home cooks vie for the title in the sweet dough pie contest. A large variety of pies will also be available for purchase including fig, custard, lemon, blackberry, and other local, seasonal ingredients. Browse through more than 70 vendors of arts, handmade items, flowers and herbs, custom furniture, indoor and outdoor decor, while enjoying local cuisine and live music.  

    Don't miss this opportunity to explore the gorgeous grounds at the Church or St. Charles Borromeo. Historical reenactments and trolley tours of St. Charles Cemetery where fifteen graves of historic citizens will take place throughout the day. Meet Dr. Millard, who treated, Mary Wilson, the beneficiary of the only miracle recognized by the Catholic Church in the United States.

    10th Annual Festival of Words

    This free event celebrates the written and spoken word through public readings and performances, student creative writing contests, open mics, writing workshops in the school and community, and “drive-by poetry". 2016 authors included Yvette Landry, Rain Prud'homme-Cranford (Gomez), Chere Dastugue Coen, Bruce Coen, Kristina Marshall, and Chamir Murphy.

    4th Annual Everybody's Birthday Zydeco Celebration

    The Save Our Community Center organization is throwing another shindig—the Annual Everybody’s Birthday Zydeco Celebration. Everyone is invited to the biggest birthday celebration around, featuring the driving zydeco rhythms of Grand Coteau native and recording star, Curley Taylor and Zydeco Trouble. After you work up an appetite, enjoy a bowl of delicious, home-made gumbo for sale. No matter when you were born, this zydeco throw-down celebrates you.

    The Knights of Peter Claver Hall 
    was previously the gym for St. Peter Claver school. It was built in 1952 and hosted basketball games, record hops, and school plays. The school closed in the 70s. Eventually, SOCC formed and began fundraising to renovate the building and transform it into an elegant community hall for birthdays, anniversary parties and Zydeco dances!
