While traveling in St. Landry Parish, odds are you will be driving along our designated Scenic Byway. A series of three loops make up the Zydeco Cajun Prairie Scenic Byway. The routes will take you through not only St. Landry Parish, but our neighboring parishes of Acadia and Evangeline. All three areas have great music history and you will learn about the genres of Cajun, swamp pop and zydeco. These three genres are still popular today and heard on the local radio stations. The Byway is the perfect way to experience the long standing traditions and culture found along the beautiful back roads of southwest Louisiana. We promise it will make you tap your feet!
Did you know: While riding along scenic Hwy. 105, between Krotz Springs and Melville, you may recognize the landscape as seen in the 1969 class film, Easy Rider.
Another designated route of interest is the Bayou Teche Corridor. With the naming of the Atchafalaya Basin as a National Heritage Area, the regions surrounding it were identified by points of interest found within the largest freshwater swamp in the United States. The Bayou Teche has since been named a National Water Trail and the parishes through which it flows are St. Landry, St. Martin, Iberia and Morgan City. Covering over 135 miles the Bayou Teche has played a major role in the development of the numerous communities that grace its banks and welcome paddlers year around.
